Technical Pages

Various odds and ends

Here's where all the technical junk that doesn't fit anywhere else is shoved. FAQs, Site History and everything else you may want to know.

FAQ

1. Whose site is this?
The Index belongs to Alcyone. Nevertheless, the staff also lay claim to the site as their baby. You can learn more about the staff here.

2. Have you met Stephenie?
Alcyone has not met Stephenie. Ouisa did during a signing. And no, we do not know how you may contact Stephenie.

3. Will you link to my site?
Maybe. It's up to Alcyone's discretion whether she will link to a specific site. Provided it has excellent content and is well-trafficked, yes.

4. How can I contact you for corrections or to add information?
You can reach us through the Contact tab at the top of the page.

5. Who made the logo?
Our logo was made by Saffron Sunset at Vesperarium.

Site History

How did this site come around and why so early (August 2007)?

Originally, it was a project.

Yes, a project. You know, the ones you do to get graded on? Those ones.

I, Alcyone, was stuck in a year of computer because Italian class was canceled. The purpose of the class was to create a fully-functional website. Annoyed, I browsed through the web looking for a topic when a blurb on Stephenie's site caught my eye. Stephenie Meyer writing science-fiction? One of my favorite authors and one of my favorite genres together?

Choosing another topic would have been heresy.

However, I soon came upon a rather large obstacle. I knew nothing about creating a site. HTML was utter gibberish; Japanese kanji made more sense. Finding a good web host? I was more liable to find the infamous needle in the haystack first.

JuliaF was my salvation. She coded the first site, found an amazing web host and was an absolute wonder and put up with my pestering.

After Julia, ouisa joined the staff and soon became the co-administrator in the forums. I'm still not sure whether granting ouisa orange powers was an intelligent or suicidal move. Nevertheless, she proved a funny, sarcastic ally in battling not-so-intelligent posters and the unceasing onslaught of spammers.

During those first few months, I did many things I never though I would do. I learned HTML (Basic and some intermediate, but it's not gibberish anymore. Not entirely, at least.), I've podcasted, I procured a weapon, I've dabbled in graphics, I've smacked ouisa with my exclamation point...

Meanwhile, more information about The Host became available and the site grew larger. Our members swelled past the 100 mark in January and a very special poster indeed also joined.

To sum this all up, this site has been a roller coaster ride. A lot of responsibility, very costly, yet, I've never had so much fun in a long time.

By the way, that project? I aced it.
